Of the over five wines opened at Brian's Thanksgiving dinner, this Petite Verdot received the best reviews. So much so that Henry, Diana, and Brian have since requested bottles.
The Petit Verdot is a strong and very dry red. The grape varietal originates in the Bordeaux region and is known to be bold and have very strong tannins. Petit Verdot grapes are actually used mostly for blending to enhance color and tannin structure of other grapes.
The Taft Street Petit Verdot wine is very flavorful, but will leave your mouth very dry. This is definitely not a wine for someone who is not into reds. It complemented Brian's prime rib very well, probably better than the many cabs that we opened that night. And yes, we opened many.
$16 at the winery. President's Club members receive 30% off.
