Smooth on the palatte, but it has a very coarse finish, not from the tannins, but just.. feels rough at the back of the throat. There are very few tannins at all, which makes this very mild, but mostly lacking flavor and texture.
This 2002 Syrah is from Echelon's Esperanza Vineyard in Clarksburg. While the winery itself is in San Luis Obispo, the "Clarksburg appelletian" is, a grape-growing area just outside of Sacramento.
I guess there's a reason why this wine typically sells for around $10. In this case, it was also a BevMo $0.05 wine. So it comes out to be $5.
I'm drinking this with turnip cake and soy paste, which is slightly sweet. It actually isn't a bad combination.
