With the demise of Everclear (I checked two other stores yesterday and neither carried it), looks like we'll have to come up with a new recipe for an Evil Punch drink. This is what I made Saturday night:

1 Cup Vodka
1 Quart Flavored Soda Water
1 Package of Frozen Berries

Serve well chilled.

Make sure to get NON-sugar-free soda water. All that Safeway stuff comes only sugar-free now. Ugh... Horrible. I think that's what caused the aftertaste on Saturday, not the vodka.

If you can find Everclear, use it! With Everclear, even non-alcoholic drinkers (ahem...Mormons) can't taste the alcohol, but vodka leaves a slightly alcohol flavor behind.

The version with Everclear is perfect.

Trying this with decent vodka may also help. The vodka used was just some random brand bought at the liquer store cause I couldn't find Everclear.

I'll try this with Ketel One or Stoli next time.

My vote is for the Ketel One - that's my favorite. It blends almost invisibly with drinks.

So we tried it with Ketel One, and you could still taste the alcohol... very slightly.

On the bright side, I've found that BevMo sells Everclear, so it wasn't banned in California, as I thought it was. I made this at Ginger's housewarming party, where it was quite popular. Now, the quest begins to find the soda water that's not sugar-free.
